Stop Judging Me! Love, A Formula Feeding Mom

Breastfeeding vs Formula Feeding. I know that this is a very controversial topic, and I think it’s important to be real with one another. So guess what…I did not breastfeed Sofia past 1.5 months old.  **Jaws drop** I know…shocking right? It’s not that I don’t believe in it, it’s just that I quite honestly had a battle and a half with it and decided that for my family and myself, formula feeding is what works.

Can I just say that I have been “looked at funny” by more women over the fact that I formula fed Sofia, than any other parenting decision I have made. It’s really not the end of the world that breastfeeding didn’t work out for us. I’m not bitter, but I do want address it on behalf of other formula feeding moms.

I want to bring bf-ing mommas and ff-ing mommas together! So often we (ff-ing momma’s ) have a tendency to feel judged by everyone else.  Whether we are just too sensitive and projecting our own guilt, or we really are being judged, I wanted to shed some light! I don’t want any formula feeding mom to be made to feel like she is less than, because let me tell you, motherhood is just as tricky with formula as it is with breastmilk. To the formula feeding mom: WE SUPPORT YOU!

Here are 5 things every Formula Feeding Momma wishes she could have printed out on an index card to hand to the person who gives her a dirty look as she pulls out the formula:

1.We love our babies just as much as the Breastfeeding Mommas.

2. We are also bonded to our babies.

3. Our children have every chance of being as smart as breastfed babies. (what actually contributes to breastfed babies being smarter is the physical touch they receive during nursing. I am always conscious to be touchy with my babies while giving them a bottle)

4. Formula really is not the devil-I am so grateful there is a product, made especially to nourish my baby.

5. Our babies will grow to be healthy and strong.

So to all of the moms who successfully breastfeed, and all of the moms who for whatever reason, formula feed, you are doing an amazing job. Keep up the great work. We are here for each one of you, wherever you are in your journey. WE SUPPORT YOU! Thank you for reading.
