2-year-old Alayna Hope Nickless was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) type Pre B Cell on Jan 28th, 2016. On March 22, 2016 her father had the task of shaving off her hair. Her mother, Jenny Nickless posted these pictures to her Facebook page.
“It was the day we were supposed to be taking newborn pictures of our 3rd child, Avery Grace, who was 1 week old at the time. The outfits and headbands were picked out and everything was ready. Funny how things can change. A fever and a boo-boo on Alayna’s leg ended up sending us to the hospital. 3 months ago I would have never imagined we would be shaving all of my daughter’s hair off. Daddy is a rockstar and turned it into a really special moment. Over the last 2 months Laney’s beautiful hair had been consistently falling out, but this day it had just gotten really bad. Her hair was everywhere and coming out in chunks, so we felt that it was time for it to go. I looked at my nurse Kat and said, “Kat, tell me it’s ok to shave her head. I need to know it’s ok…” She looked at me and said, “Jenny, it will grow back and sooner than you think. It’s ok and it’s time!”
Did it make me sad…of course!…mostly just because it was our new reality…but so thankful for an amazing husband that gets things done and loves his family like no other!!! She is still just as beautiful and still #BeautifullyComplete. Alayna and her sister loved helping him shave and laughed the whole time. I didn’t think she could get any cuter, but somehow she did. She loves her bald head and we love her. And at the end of the day, it will grow back; just part of our story and another way to tell people our story and all the Lord has done.”

My favorite scripture: “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”- 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 NIV.
