What was your diagnosis, and walk us through your journey to healing:
I was suffering from a condition called Osteo Chondritis Dissecans of the Talus. In short there was a divot (dead spot) in my ankle bone, which was causing incredible shooting pains. It first started when I would take my young children to the park and for exercise I would climb the rows of stairs to a lookout platform. After a series of tests and x-rays, the Drs informed me that there was a dead spot in my ankle bone! They said if I was younger they would scrape the bone, cause it to bleed and hope it would repair. If I was older, they would fuse my bone together, but since I was in-between, they told me to just “stay off of it”. I remember thinking “how can you stay off of your feet when you have a 9yr old, a 7 yr old, and a 2yr old?”. The pain was so intense that I had no choice but to try and stay off of it.
In the meantime at our church they announced that Dr. Malkmus was coming to speak about “the Hallelujah Diet”. When I found out it was a vegan, 80% raw diet I thought, I have NO intention of giving up meat! But after listening to his testimony on being set free from cancer, I decided to sign up for the classes. His wife’s testimony really caught my attention. She had been in a terrible car accident and had a lot of bone issues. After switching to juicing and a raw diet, she dropped weight and was healed! I remember thinking, “if I can change what I eat, and be out of pain…it’s worth it”! [pullquote_left]if I can change what I eat, and be out of pain…it’s worth it![/pullquote_left]
We started juicing carrots and drinking barley green. 1lb of carrots would equal a glass of juice. There were 5 of us, so we peeled ALOT of carrots! After some research I added pineapple (as a natural anti-inflammatory) and kale (to improve bone health). One thing I noticed right away was that I had WAY more energy and did not get sleepy after eating. I was getting nourishment to the cell level and so I was satisfied much longer and wasn’t always looking for a snack in between meals.
My specialest said that he did not think nutrition would help me, so I changed Drs and went to Shands for another opinion! It took a while, as bone does not replace itself as quickly as skin does. Through the x-rays, my new Dr. pointed out to me that there were wisps of calcium (similar to the white pockets on your fingernails) that were working there way to the damaged area! He gave me the illustration of my bone being like a brick wall. The damaged bricks were green, and the healthy ones were red. My body was slowly removing the green bricks and replacing them with red!
I am happy to say that my husband and I now walk 3 miles a day, and I work out at the gym 4 times a week PAIN FREE! I am so thankful that my ankle is not FUSED TOGETHER! I believe juicing and prayer have bought about this wonderful change!
